About

The Paso Robles Amateur Radio Club is a group of Ham Radio enthusiasts from San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties.

History

The club was started by John Derby, W6LKF, owner of Derby’s Radio Shop, located at 827 13th Street in Paso Robles. From an early sixties call book, W6LKF was the club call sign of the PRARC. It’s not known when the club took over John’s call.

Notable Members

Harry Wolf, W6NKT, worked for John Derby in the 1940s. Harry was a long time member of the PRARC and passed away several years ago at 104 years old! At the time of his passing, Harry was the oldest licensed practicing amateur radio operator in the United States. Harry loved amateur radio and even though his hearing was failing, he was able to still work CW. His daughter used to bring him to the meetings from Morro Bay.
